What value do you place on AP and Capstone coursework on a student’s transcript?
AP classes are great because they can get some credit to transfer in and we typically weight that more than a regular course. Capstones help us to see where students are at and can give us some insight to where some of their passions are.
-St. Mary's University of Minnesota
It carries no additional weight during an application review. Instead we reward students who do well in their AP classes with college credit.
-Bemidji State University
A little, but not a ton- would rather see a student take a transcripted credit course.
-University of Jamestown
We love to see students Taking AP classes, and we happily accept many of those credits as college credits if you earn a certain score on the exams.
-University of Mary
We look for them on the transcript, but it does not determine admission whether a student has taken higher level courses or not.
-North Dakota State University
We view that as an elevated level of coursework and would be taken into consideration when evaluating their application.
-University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
Because schools have differing weighted GPAs, we have a universal scale we use for all students to level the playing field. In that respect, AP credits are weighted higher for GPA calculation.
-Concordia University-Moorhead
We don't place any additional value on these things for admission purposes. Students may earn credit for certain AP exam scores.
